A mass shooting in Indianapolis early Sunday left one person dead and 9 others injured, according to theIndianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).
A 16-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, reportsCBS News.
The nine wounded victims ranged in age from 16-22 years old, with six juvenile victims. The nine surviving victims were transported to local hospitals and are in stable condition.
IMPD Deputy Chief Kendale Adams said authorities have not identified the shooter. He said the party had “several hundred people” and “six firearms” were found at the crime scene. The party occurred at a hair salon during off hours — at 5100 E. 65th Street in Indianapolis, according to theIMPD’s press release.
During apress conferenceMonday, Commander of the IP North District Matt Thomas said police heard gunshots after they arrived to break up the party. He added that additional medical personnel arrived and applied “emergency medical techniques” to the known victims.

Adams said authorities identified the owner of the building and the “promoter” who was inviting party goers to the event via Snapchat and Cash App.

“Somebody saw something. Somebody recorded something on their cell phone. Media’s getting stories about what occurred, and they’re asking us things that we don’t even know,” Adams said at the press conference. “So I’m begging you to come forward with information."
“People have information that they’re not sharing,” Police Chief Randal Taylor said. “But until you cooperate until you help us out, it’s an uphill battle in order to try to solve these cases."
Adams and Taylor also called on parents to be “very vigilant” regarding their children’s social media activity.
“The other thing is you need to be locked into where your children are going," Adams said. “You need to have some awareness about who they’re hanging out with, where they’re going and what their intentions are.”
Police also expressed their condolences to the deceased’s family. “We have a 16-year-old family that has lost someone important to them," Taylor said. “No way we can bring them back.”
“No one deserves to die at 16 years old because they go to a party,” Adams said. “And we’re going to do everything as a law enforcement agency to do our part but we need you to do your part.”
IPMD is investigating the incident with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Adams said Monday.
