When San Francisco 49ers playerMarquise Goodwinwas suddenly absent for two games last November, neither the team nor the 28-year-old wide receiver provided a public explanation. Now, Goodwin and his wife, Morgan Goodwin-Snow, have revealed the heartbreaking reason why.

In a video posted to theirYouTubechannel on January 16, the couple revealed that Morgan — a former track and field star at the University of Texas at Austin — experienced a miscarriage in late November, losing their twin boys. The miscarriage came nearly a year after the death of their son, who was born three months premature.

“November obviously would be tough since we lost our kid last year during the season the week of the Giants,” Marquise said in the video. “So it was tough for us this November just dealing with that but [we] had a lot of strength and we made it through that week, and another thing happened.”

“This November, I had to miss two games,” he continued. “We experienced another traumatic event in our life that we had to overcome and it was tough at that point in the season.”

Morgan was at 19-weeks gestation when she was admitted to a hospital in the early morning hours on November 25, just before Marquise was meant to head to Tampa Bay for a matchup against the Buccaneers. Morgan experienced painful contractions and lost the twins due to complications.

“We knew that this was a possibility, obviously, because they’re sticking me with stuff in my stomach underneath anesthesia,” Morgan, 25, explained in the video while seated next to her husband.

She added: “I finally had the courage to open up and talk about it, because I really didn’t want to.”

NFL: NOV 12 Giants at 49ers

At the end of the 14-minute long video, the couple included clips of the twins’ sex reveal, which was filmed last year ahead of the miscarriage.

Marquise made headlines in November 2017 when he caught an 83-year touchdown pass in the 49ers’ game against the New York Giants, then blew a kiss, pointed to the sky, fell to his knees and made the sign of the cross as his teammates embraced him.

Later that day, Marquise announced that the couple had lost their premature son earlier that morning.

“Although we are hurt,” he continued, “I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain (physically, mentally, & emotionally) that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family.”
