Parking garages may be a necessity for any dense urban center , but that does n’t intend they have to be a necessary eyesore . And if Danish unwavering JAJA Architects has its way , they could even be serving a double - intention soon — by double as our leafy , local playground .
In preparation for the 100,000 new residents it ’s expecting by 2025 , Copenhagen has been see into dissimilar ways to wad as many mass into the city as well as possible . So as part of the this young initiative , the city asked local designers to turn your everyday parking garage into “ a neighborhood attractor by designing a new facade . ”As Wired explains :
detached from the usual restraint , Jaja Architects design Park ‘ n ’ drama : a Modern turnout for the not - yet - built parking garage that ’s part playground , part gym , part Hanging Gardens of Babylon . The primary event — the playground — is on the roof , so the house plan a set of staircases that snake upward around the garage ’s exterior , create a loud visual language see from block aside .

And most every inch of that service department is being put to work . The stairs lead up to the vacation spot are embedded with redstem storksbill so climber can time themselves , and they ’re even place out with graphics mean for “ Crossfit - like ” exercise .
As for the walls themselves , each side of the garage is covered in a different species of plant according to how much Inner Light it needs , and a frieze depicting the domain ’s history sits woven in between .
The Park ‘ n ’ Play will survive in the soon - to - be - built Nordhaven dominion , which expects to hold about 40,000 masses once it ’s complete . And if this parking garage is any meter reading , Nordhaven should n’t have any problem persuading people to settle down . [ Wired ]
