We should all move to Vienna . That ’s what the Economist Intelligence Unit recommends : In a new report , it place Austria ’s capital as the world ’s most livable city . With a score of 99.1 out of 100 , Vienna beat out Melbourne for the top spot , which the Australian city had held onto for the preceding seven consecutive years . This is theCity of Music ’s first fourth dimension being telephone number one .

The survey order 140 urban center worldwide found on five category : stability ( including crime and act of terrorism ) ; healthcare ; culture and surround ( including level of censoring , temperature , and cultural offerings ) ; Education Department ; and substructure ( including public transportation , trapping , vigour , and piss ) . Overall , there were improvements in rubber and stability this year for the countries surveyed .

Vienna scored a perfect 100 in four out of five categories . The only orbit in which the city could use a petite act of improvement is in culture and environment — though its 96.3 mark is still pretty impressive .

The metropolis that scored best on the list tend to be mid - sized with downhearted universe compactness and located in moneyed countries . The world ’s biggest urban centers , such as New York , London , and Paris , may be pop places to live for their invincible food and acculturation , but gamey levels of law-breaking , congestion , and public transportation issues make timber of lifespan less desirable and drag them down in the rankings .
