“ The Promise , ” is two episodes in one . The first is a wrenching tragedy . The 2nd is one of the most delightfulcomic half - time of day of television I have ever seen . This is the Arrow installment to watch , people .
The Tragedy
You bang when KGBeast provide the storyline ’s lightest moments , it ’s croak to be a downer . Sara , Ollie , and Slade plan an assault on the bottom , bonding all the elbow room . Sure , their bond is n’t only stark , asSlade has secretly stashed away some Mirakuru , and Ollie and Sara are quietlynot mentioning the fact that Ollie “ chose ” to let Shado get murdered byIvo . But there ’s rummy , and dry toasts , so really , what could go wrong ?
thing seem to go wrong when Ollie is captured and draggedaboard the freighter . ( This is whereKGBeast lightens the mood , dryly remarking , “ Fantastic . We ’re saved . ” ) He ’s drugged , and reveals that Sara and Sladeare in the engine room . Except Sara madean antidote to truth blood serum , and actually , they are both jump their wayover on deck while the full gang searches beneath . What follows is all the shaky cam andcontrolled explosions in the world , as the gang and the captive struggle forcontrol of the boat .
Ollie corners Ivo and Ivo runs through a sum-up of Shado’sexecution and Ollie ’s “ selection ” so cautiously that you may in reality see , in thebackground , a cat leaping out of a bag . Of naturally Slade hears . To hiscredit , he seems at least as raging that Ollie lied to him about something soimportant as angry about Shado ’s death . Thiswill not last .
There ’s something to be said for the fact that , despite thechaos , we get a sentiency that the guards , not the captive , are getting the upperhand . Sara , Ollie , KGBeast , and ThomasFlint , who because of his two displayed persona traits I shall callMissionary With a Mouse , leap ship . Ollie does n’t make it . Slade has get over the ship . Sladecatches him by the ankle , whangs him against the side of the gravy holder like he ’s a landed trout , and cage him .
The last scene in the flashback , in which Slade makes atrembling , weeping Ivo hold out a gun for hire on Ollie , only to lop off his hand , wouldmake a strong valet de chambre eat his own knuckles . Ollie require why he ’s still alive , and Slade says , “ you’re able to not go untilyou have known complete despair . And youwill . I promise . ”
The Comedy
I can go for a disaster every now and again , but my warmness lie with comedy , andthis episode provides in spade . Asregular watcher know , Ollie just come home to his alienated mother and foundDeathstroke sitting on her sofa , having just add money to her campaignfund . During this episode , Ollie spends the intact visit beingthe humans ’s mouthiest little smutty rain cloud . Slade is make the best time I have ever seen anyone have , and I’vewatched Animal House . When Conan the Barbarian claimedthat what is best in life is “ to crush your enemies , see them push beforeyou , and to discover the lamentations of their women , ” it was only because he neverhad a chance to sit on a couch , drink rum , and have an ever - so - slightlyflirtatious conversation with his foe ’s female parent . The articulatio humeri touch alone made Ollie looklike he was go to burst a blood vessel .
Oh , the significant looks!Slade differentiate Moira that he ’s substantiate her because she ’s pro - businessand , because “ I bang how hard it is to pick yourself back up when everyone has writtenyou off . Her frigid aspect at Ollie when she says , “ Indeed , ” is something tobehold . Ollie uses the time to dial the Arrow team , who assemble aroundthe Queen house . Roy ’s shaking with excessenergy , and Slade recognise the signs of another Mirikuru substance abuser the moment theyshake hands . Then Sara come glidingdown the step and looks worried . Ollie , eventually showinga little smile , ask , “ So what would you care to do now ? ”
Slade decides he ’d like to leave . Dig has a sniper rifle on him outside ( andhow awesome would that front for Moira ’s campaign – having a donor die on herfront porch the second he ’s signed the check ) , but Dig is knocked out bysomeone who , I ’m guessing from the prevue of the next episode , is a fellow member ofthe Suicide Squad . Slade gets into hiscar and leave . Ollie leaves , too , asMoira informs him that if he ’s going to work like Grumpy Smurf , he can go andlive in the woods for all she cares . And , as it turns out , Slade was just there to bug the Queen dwelling house .
I do n’t even fume , but this episode made me want acigarette . That was great .
