CharmedHas Killed Every Nod to Its Namesake, and Is Much Better for It

Charmed has closed the door on its first season , andthe show as it startedis not the one we end up with . Nearly every secret plan compass point and Easter egg from the original Charmed isno more , and we ’re left with the promise of a different and better series — one that ’s less about rehashing affair we loved ( or loved to detest ) from the original serial publication , and more focussed on forging its own path .

The season finale “ The Source Awakens ” survive more as the 2nd half of a two - parter , rather than its own episode . It follows the events of last week ’s “ Red pelting , ” where the long - awaitedapocalypsefinally came to pass . Allthe Elderswere kill and the Source of All Evil was awakened . Only instead of going into Parker ’s body — like how Cole became the Source in the original Charmed — Macy take it into herself , insisting that she could control it .

Most of the instalment centers around the mind that no , Macy can not control the reference of All Evil . Because , duh , it ’s the Source of All Evil ( as well as the Sacred Flame of Magic , but do n’t occupy about that , it wo n’t matter in the end ) . find depressed and isolate from her sisters , Macy resolves to use her author might to “ fix ” every horrible death that ’s fall out in her life . First , she brings Galvin back , which pisses him off , and then creates a series of alternate realities so she can bring their mama back from the drained . It was a cool sequence , and I was impressed with Madeleine Mantock ’s performance as Macy . Her version of Keep Calm and Source On was both terrific and vulnerable . Macy has suffered from abandonment issues for years , and this installment was where it culminated . The Source roll in the hay how to tap someone ’s pain and insecurity , and this was Macy ’s .

Eventually , Maggie and Mel are able to convince Macy that they ’re not going anywhere , because they all get laid each other , and together they manage to trap the Source of All Evil in a bantam necklace that shatter into three pieces . Each of them get hold of a plane section and ( somewhere offscreen ) forget it at a secret location at the sharpness of the populace , before having Harry wipe their memories so no one can learn where the pieces are . Unless someone manages to find the pieces and reforge the Source of All Evil ’s hiding place , it ’s dependable to assume that this plot line is over .

Now that the Source itself has been defeated , every single storyline tied to the original series is go . The divination was carry through . Maggie ’s half - ogre fellow Parker has skipped town . The Elders are dead , leave the babe in charge of protecting the magical biotic community … which entail the traditional power structure that run through the original series has been toppled . give how the Elders were in charge of whitelighters and their power , we can also adopt most of their watches have stop too . In fact , Harry may be the only person left with those abilities ( he ’d previously been curse by the Elders , but go his powers restored by Fiona ) .

It was dainty take the ties to the original Charmed as the new show was getting start . They provided a bit of a puff cover , and got us acclimated to the unexampled Charmed Ones . It ’s almost poetic that the first time of year ended on a guess of Macy telepathically shut the door of their family home . That ’s because Prue Halliwell , Macy ’s spiritual predecessor , did the same thing at the end of the first episode of original Charmed . Prue was shutting the doorway on the sister ’ previous life history and pave the room for something new . This Charmed is doing it too — close one threshold , and opening a window into a new and exciting humans .
