When the teen confirmed he was “ready for graduation, Bookout McKinney asked him if he “feels like it’s gone fast.”

“This year was crazy fast,” he said.

“I definitely know Ryan would like to be here to go to your graduation, but I definitely know he’s proud of you. So am I,” Bookout McKinney told her son.

At the time, Bentley’s dad,Ryan Edwards, was serving jail time and the family was uncertain whether he’d be able to attend the graduation.

As the conversation between Bookout McKinney and Bentley continued, she asked him, “Do you feel like there’s more access to a relationship with Ryan now than there was before?”

Bentley answered, “That’s complicated, I guess.”

Bookout McKinney asked if the connection felt like “less of a chore” or “less heavy,” to which the teen said, “I guess.”

“It feels that way for me too, honestly,” she shared, adding, “We’re doing good, buddy. Proud of you.”

“You know, you did really good,” Bentley said.

“With what, raising you?” Bookout McKinney asked, which he sweetly confirmed.
