Suzanne Somerswas buried in a one-of-a-kind pair of shoes that celebrated her love story.
Somers’ husbandAlan Hamel, 87, shared with PEOPLE that theThree’s Companystar, whodied onOct. 15 frombreast cancer, was laid to rest in a pair of shoes that had a sentimental tie to the pair —Timberland bootsthat he purchased for her and had customized with heartfelt handwritten notes.
PEOPLE obtained the photos of special shoes, which featured the words “in love forever” written in red block letters on the left boot, along with a sentimental drawing of a man and woman next to each other on top of the words “love.” The drawings appeared to be Picasso-like, with the faces of people drawn with squiggly lines and decorated with pink and red colors.
The other side of the boot also featured the words “twice a day” written in block red letters, a cheeky reference to the couple’s intimacy.

On the right boot, the words “we are one” were written alongside an arrow pointing to the front of the shoe which showed a sketch of what appeared to be different red lines coming out of a black and blue spiral.
Hamel noted that he had originally purchased the shoes so she would have something to hike in and had drawn “a few words that represented our lifeto some degree and made them very personal to Suzanne.”
“Every time she put on the Timberlands, she said, ‘I am wearing you, and my boots will keep me safe,’” he told PEOPLE.
The Canadian entertainer shared with PEOPLE that the couple, who resided beside the mountains in both Malibu andPalm Springsfor 50 years, developed an “early morning routine” in which they would hike “to the top” of the mountains “where there was a creek and a large flat rock in the middle of the creek."

Somers' family celebrated her life and legacy on Nov. 30, when the actress' closest friends and family came together to “celebrate Suzanne’s incredible life” and her illustrious Hollywood career.
A second memorial will take place in Somers’ hometown of San Bruno, California, this week and the family will release portions of the celebrations later this month.
